Financial Literacy

Financial Literacy                                      (Integrated grade 9 -12)

In these challenging economic times, it is more important than ever for high school students to be financially literate and possess the skills necessary to make informed choices and effectively manage their individual finances. In fact, these life skills are vital for students to be successful after graduating high school.

In addressing these needs, the NEL/CPS Charter School, in conjunction with the Rholde Island branch of the national Jump$tart Coalition has adopted an innovative approach in its application of financial literacy instruction. The Charter School has incorporated the National Financial Literacy Standards into a cross content approach throughout the school curriculum to include math, English, social studies, science, and Career Exploration among others. Students are also given the opportunity to demonstrate many of these skills in the core curriculum grade level problem based learning tasks.
