Curriculum - Science

Physical Science                                            (grade 9) 1 credit

Students taking physical science learn about the world around them.  Topics such as forces, motion, electricity, magnetism, chemistry, and engineering are covered in a hands-on inquiry based approach.

 Biology                                                           (grade 10) 1 credit

Students in biology learn about living organisms and how they interact with each other and their environment.  Topics in cytology, genetics, molecular biology, ecology, evolution, and human biology are covered in a problem-based learning enviornment.

 Forensic Science                                       (grade 11-12) .5 credit

Students in forensic science learn the laboratory aspect of solving crimes.  Topics such as fingerprinting, hair and fiber analysis, DNA, impressions, physical anthropology, odontology, handwriting, entomology, human remains, and other newsworthy topics.  This class uses the latest in laboratory techniques that are available for the high school biology laboratory.  Students in this course also participate in a human body dissection.

Earth Systems                                              (grade 11-12) .5 credit
 
Students taking Earth Systems will learn how all parts of the Earth interact with each other. A heavy emphasis will be placed on the study of geology and how it shapes the Earth we see on a daily basis. Students will also learn about the objects in the night sky while they study astronomy. These topics will be covered in a problem-based learning environment.
