Curriculum - Science

Physics First - Foundations of Physics         Grade 9, Credit 1.0

This conceptual physical science class will follow the general course description and topic list but will be designed for students in the process of achieving mastery of basic mathematics skills. Extensive use of hands-on activities and laboratory studies will provide students with concrete examples of physics concepts and principles that they experience in their daily lives. Post-activity instruction will provide students with opportunities to apply new knowledge to hypothetical situations as a way of developing abstract through processes and problem-solving skills. Use of basic mathematics (measures of frequency) will be incorporated into the collection and analysis of data as the year progresses.

 Biology                                                          Grade 10, Credit 1.0

Students in biology learn about living organisms and how they interact with each other and their environment.  Topics in cytology, genetics, molecular biology, ecology, evolution, and human biology are covered in a problem-based learning enviornment.

Forensic Science (Biological)                     Grade 11-12, Credit .5

Students taking Forensic Science will explore advanced topics in biology and physics such as DNA, fingerprinting, blood splatter, and anthropology. Additionally, they will utilize problem solving and inquiry skills to investigate the science of solving crimes.
Prerequisites: Physics (Foundations of), Biology

Earth's Chemistry: Earth,Space,&Chemistry  Grade 10, Credit 1.0

Concepts of chemistry are used to examine phenomena in Earth and Space science. This course uses an integrated approach to topics such atomic structure, periodicity, plate tectonics, volcanism, and the life cycle of a star. Successful completion of this course will expose students to GSE's in Earth and Space, Science and Chemistry.
